On Monday November 21, 2022, Celliers de Sion held the first sommelier competition for students, the SSWA.
The Student Swiss Wine Award was organized in partnership with Paolo Basso.
Paolo Basso is one of six sommeliers to have won the titles of Best Sommelier of Europe (in 2010 in Strasbourg) and Best Sommelier of the World (in 2013 in Tokyo) and Swiss Wine Promotion-the national promotion organization for Swiss wines.
Discovering exceptional vintages
The aim of the competition was to showcase the great diversity of the Swiss terroir and introduce students to some exceptional wines.
Candidates enrolled in a vocational or hotel school competed in theoretical and practical tests based on Switzerland's heritage, before a jury of influential figures from the Swiss wine and gastronomy world, chaired by Paolo Basso.
And the winners are...
Three students from EHL:
- Nicolas Velin
- Victor V.
- Alexandre Triponel
who won the first edition of this competition initiated by Celliers de Sion, ahead of the team from César Ritz College, the Valais Agricultural School in Châteauneuf and the Les Roches Hotel School in Crans-Montana.
